Memorial Day Weekend

It is Sunday of Memorial Day Weekend...... Yesterday was the annual cemetery tour with my father. After graduation on Friday night and a quick trip back to school to alarm the building, it was off to Defiance so that it would make the trip a little shorter. Up and at 'em pretty early on Saturday and it was off to Lodi, Creston, Madisonburg, and Moreland. The conversation seemed a little less stressed this year.

We spent some time driving around Orrville to find Aunt Ellen's house, and had to resort to finding a wireless signal along with chatting with son #1 to actually make the operation a success. Aunt Ellen lives alone with her dog. It is always interesting to me to hear my father and his relatives share stories of the old days. Harter Hill was the topic along with some fine stories about going to school, Widen, Summers Fork, and Rock Camp. I also learned that having a name that begins with a vowel or a consonant could have something to do with order of death. Always interesting tidbits like that when you are a part of one of these "story" telling adventures.

I am feeling a little poorly this morning. I suspect that it may have something to do with sleeping in air conditioning. Maybe.... maybe not. There was also a great deal of dirt in the air yesterday as we were traveling. Many farmers were in the field. Clouds of dust were following almost everyone.

Plenty of action coming up this week in the never ending quest to get everyone hired. Also interviewing sports medicine providers, having an NLL athletic directors meeting, and trying to figure out what is going on with evaluations of spring coaches. Nothing quite being on vacation is there? Sad... very very sad....

In the meantime, take some time during what remains of this weekend and think about those who have gone before us. The root of memorial is remember. But please consider that this particular holiday is about all people not just exclusively veterans. Yes the deceased veterans are on a higher plain that the rest of us, however, November 11 is reserved for them. The last Monday in May is for all.

Peace.
