2021 On The Way Out
It is almost 6:30 am on the final day of 2021.
Although it has had its ups and downs, the year has been ok.
Last night I went in person to the finals of the holiday basketball tournament. Game one was St. Francis vs. Clyde. The starting point guard for the Frannies is the son of one of my former players and grandson of my mentor. As a freshman, a great deal is being expected of him. He holds his own. I was pleased to be a part of a photo op after the game. It was somewhat ironic that my other mentor was part of the photo as well. It was great to catch up with the Heck family and other assorted familiar faces. Perhaps the most interesting part of the night was how talkative Coach Bumgartner was. He came to visit and ended up staying and repeatedly stated how much he liked the seat location. As to the second game, it was entertaining. Lost by one to a very good Perrysburg team. The game was played evenly. A no call on the final shot was the difference. It was a little disconcerting that we looked confused during the last minute or minute and a half of the game. People were uncertain of their role.
The physical endurance was definitely tested last night. One game was ok... the second game pushed me, and the trip back to the car was agony. Kind of discouraging.
Take some time to begin reflecting on 2021. Tomorrow Janus arrives.....
